Jochen Abitz lives in Germany and started his photographic career about a decade ago. He started his career with digital equipment and a digital camera, however, he then found a new love for film photogaphy, of which he develops himself. His photographs are a mixture of styles, however they are all in colour, but some are soft toned and some are harsh.
About Jochen Abitz;

Here is one of my researched colour photographers, where i have included annotated photographs.
Jochen Abitz

This particular photograph of Jochen Abitz is effective as it conveys a sad and deep atmosphere. This is because there are dark colours behind the subject, which metaphorically subjects what is she might be thinking is deep in meaning. Also in photographic terms the subject is enhanced as she is brighter than the dark background, this again makes a high contrast in the photograph, drawing the viewers eye to the subject immediately.The subject is placed nearer to the left side of the photograph, this is effective as the composition allows the viewer to see the surrounding more clearly, which impacts the photograph as a whole.
The photograph itself is very sharp and again emphasises the subject. The lighting in this photograph comes from the left and reflects off her face, creating shadows on the right hand side of her face, which blend in with the dark dilapidated surroundings. This adds to the eerie aspect of the photograph. As this photograph is not taken in a studio but outside, near an old building, the lighting plays an important part in the photograph and the atmosphere it creates.
This photograph is very different to Abitz's other photograph, as this one is very soft toned and has a thoughtful and elegant aspect to the photograph. The fact that the photograph has been taken outside, adds to the effect, especially as it is in a garden, adding a whimsical feel.The subject is looking away from the camera, this shows that she is lost in her thoughts, again adding to the atmosphere. Also the gate on the left side of the photograph is out of focus, this leads the eye to the subject, making her stand out. As the background is out of focus the subject is again therefore enhanced, drawing attention to her straight away.
The colour of the her clothes are white, this metaphorically shows that the subject is innocent and suggests another aspect of that whimsical feel.
