Zoltan Huszti is a photographer who specialises in colour portraiture, he has a style of photographs that captures the persons identity through one shot. He emphasises the colour in the face, creating an atmosphere that is created more by the subject itself rather than the photographer. This is effective as the photographer is able to convey the message of the subject effectively.

Zoltan Huszti

This photograph is very effective, as the photographer has thought about the lighting in detail. The light come on to his face from the right hand side, this then creates shadows on the left of his face, metaphorically it also suggests that the man is slightly mysterious and hides his story, this brought across through shadow on his left side. The photographer had purposely made his hand visible in the photograph; this is because he wanted the viewer to see his hand. This is very effective as, by looking at his bruised and dirty finger nails, shows that the man works very hard and does so for a living. Huszti’s style is to showcase people’s lives and personalities through one photograph and that is exactly what he has done in this particular one. The background is blurred out and out of focus, this draws us to the man, his eyes, in particular, and this is because they are blue and are staring right into the camera, which therefore connects with the viewer, capturing there attention. This also makes them ask questions about the man’s life, making this photograph a very interesting photograph, and at the same time a very mysterious one too.

This photograph is effective in terms of the colour that has been taken advantage of. The background is completely blacked out, so it is hard to tell whether it is taken outside or whether it is taken in a studio, however because of the slight reflection in the subject’s glasses, suggests that it may have been taken outside. The lighting in this photograph is more focused to the right of his face and darkens as it progresses through to the left. The nature of the photograph makes the viewer ask a lot of questions about the man, which is what Huszti wanted to convey through his work, he want to grab the observers attention straight away. The contrast between the black of the background and the colour of the face, makes the man stand out from the background, making us want to see what exactly the man is look at towards the light. The composition of this photograph is right up close, and shows the whole of subjects face. This is because Huszti believes that everything can be seen through a face alone, this engages with the viewer allowing them to interpret the subject however they would want, with slight guidance with Huszti.
